Duplex with Strip Mall, July ‘87
Mixed media on canvas | 60" x 50"

This piece is beautifully painted with a soft subtle colour palette that manages to be striking. Andre Turenne has an incredible feel for three-dimensional imagery which shows in ‘Les Pivoines’. He manages to harness the important details while leaving the rest behind, not bombarding the viewer with the complexity of imagery. He provides just enough for any observer to look at, using light and shadow to add dimension and depth to the painting, rather then objects. It is the contradiction in this painting, the gorgeous bright flowers painted in detail against a plain stark background, which makes this piece pleasing to the eye.
