In this piece, A.Y. Jackson depicts a lonely town. The light brown ground and sparse use of green creates a barren atmosphere. He uses dim, muted colours to emphasize this mood. The sky, however, shines a light blue with wisps of white strewn across it. As the bright sky shines over the desolate land, Jackson seems to suggest that hope lies ahead.
