With a population of less than 100, Peggy’s Cove can be characterized as sleepy, at best. This scene of the coastal town includes symbols of its economic success. Many eastern Canadian towns depend upon fishing to sustain their livelihood and Peggy’s Cove is no exception. In his painting, Taylor includes a boat and water, which allude to this common east coast practice. Compositionally, half of the canvas is occupied by water.
