Autumn Parry Sound, 1947
9" x 7"
A piece that utilizes a more realist approach, it is an example of the way in which Johnston set himself apart from the rest of the Group of Seven. Johnston’s use of warm colours, even in the sky, creates not only a crisp, autumn atmosphere, but a romantic mood as well. Through this, his experimentation and exploration with light is evident in this piece, and intrigues the onlooker’s eye.
