St. Irene
oil on canvas | 24" x 20"

In this painting, a grey sky lies brooding over the village below. The composition uses mostly black and white, with very few hints of colour. A wild fury of brushstrokes is visible in the grey sky, which gives an impression of many clouds preparing to release a layer of snow. The colour that is included is bright (red and orange), and as a result stands out from its dreary surroundings.
